Every M1nute Counts
29 October 2026
World Stroke Day is observed globally on 29 October each year to raise awareness of stroke, its prevention and treatment, and the importance of supporting people affected by stroke. Established by the World Stroke Organization in 2006, the campaign brings communities, healthcare professionals and organisations together to highlight the serious impact of stroke and encourage faster action when symptoms occur. More than 12 million people experience a stroke worldwide each year, and approximately one in four people are at risk of having a stroke during their lifetime. In Australia, around 46,000 stroke events occur each year, making awareness and rapid treatment especially important.
Every Minute Matters
The 2026 World Stroke Day campaign, Every M1nute Counts, focuses on helping people recognise the signs of stroke and understand why immediate medical attention is critical. Stroke treatment is highly time-sensitive, and seeking emergency care as soon as symptoms appear can save lives and improve the chances of recovery. Around the world, World Stroke Day is supported through community education, healthcare events, stroke awareness activities, social media campaigns, posters, videos and interactive resources such as the World Stroke Organization's #SpotStroke quiz.
How You Can Get Involved
Everyone can play a role in improving stroke awareness. Learn the F.A.S.T. signs of stroke and share them with your family, friends and colleagues. You can also take part in local World Stroke Day activities, share official campaign resources online, complete the #SpotStroke quiz or use World Stroke Organization posters and educational materials in your workplace or community. In Australia, if you notice signs of stroke, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Acting quickly can make a significant difference to survival and recovery.
