International Infection Prevention Week 2022; Celebrating 50 years

The third week of October celebrates International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) spearheaded by the Associate for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). This year the organisation celebrates 50 years of awareness and education towards the fight against healthcare-associated infection. 

Infections are the invasion and development of germs in the body. Globally, 1 in 10 patients gets an infection while receiving care. Each individual plays a vital role in prevention and infection control in health care. Infection Prevention promotes better hygiene practice in health care and recognises healthcare workers' efforts in reducing the risks of infections in healthcare settings. The APIC supports IIP Week by providing a diverse range of resources to support effective infection prevention and control education and  intitiatives. Effective Infection Prevention and Control can achieve quality health care delivery for all. Regularising habits such as hand hygiene, disinfecting and cleaning objects and surfaces often in contact is essential to prevent infection transmission.
